monkeys
in the news!

it's always nice when a fellow monkey makes it big in the news. i have not met andi, the trans-genic monkey, but, i think he sure is cute and i believe we would be best buddies if we did get to know each other.
andi has a jellyfish gene in his dna. the scientists in the attractive lab coats know this because they can see it glow under a special microscope. pretty cool huh? i do not have any jelly fish genes, but, i did dress as a friendly jelly fish for halloween this year.(notice...i am not a poisonous jellyfish)
plus, doesn't "trans-genic primate" sound like some kind of super-hero? i can see it now... by day he is mild mannered (and no doubt well mannered) research laboratory monkey, andi. but when evil or danger rears its ugly head, he turns into "tran-genic primate" doer of good! his super power would be glowing under a florescent light. i am not too sure how this would help rid the world of evil, but, he would certainly be entertaining.

andi and i have so much in common. we are both small and cute, and we both glow under the right conditions. (but then, who doesn't.)

how can you find out more about andi, you ask? i'm glad you asked....

you can listen to the story about him on NPR's website from the 11th of january or you can read any of a number of interesting articles on the bbc's spiffy web site. you may also with to take a peek at discovery's story about him. you will want to see the pictures of andi from and other interesting scholarly stuff at the web site of the university where he lives.
