today, i have chosen this nice buttery and oh so flaky croissant as the bread part of this recipe. two slices of sourdough bread, pain de campagne, white bread, wheat bread,or the equivalent in slices of baguette would suffice as well. i occasionally use raisin bread, cinnamon bread, banana bread, brioche, challa, houska, or panetone for a particularly festive flair.
