the day of the dead or dia de los muertos as it is called in it's native mexico is a wonderful holiday celebrated on november 2nd. now don't get this festive day mixed up with halloween, though, yes, there are skulls and we do talk about death, but, it's not in a scary way like on halloween. no, this is a special day when we honor our ancestors and those we love who have passed away. we make sugar skulls, construct special alters, enjoy special treats and go to the cemetery and tidy things up. what i like the best is that it is a time to talk about those who are no longer with us. i love to listen to the stories about my ancestors and i get to relive some special memories. of course, i remember that i could be a skeleton any time and think about how precious this life is. pretty spiffy holiday, isn't it?

let's make sugar skulls

back to holidays, please.
