for demonstration purposes, i am re-enacting an actual phone call that i made many years ago when i first became a member of my public radio station (that's kera in dallas for those of you keeping score at home). notice how i greet the nice volunteer cheerfully. notice how i respond quickly to all questions i am asked. notice, also, how i read my credit card number clearly and slowly when asked. be particularlly attentive to the fact that i have given some thought to which "thank you gift" i would like an express my preference when asked. (i chose a mug.) notice how, even though i would like to chat for hours with my new friend, i let them get off the phone in a timely manner so that they can speak with the other people who are eager to make their pledge to the station. notice how i say thank you and goodbye at the end of our conversation.(blowing kisses at the end of the call is a nice personal touch i like to add, but is optional.)
